Learner Reflection in Student Self-Assessment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Learner reflection has been found important and valuable, especially in cognitively intensive tasks, such as learning programming. This paper presents, K-Assess, a programming education system that facilitates student self-evaluation and promotes learner reflection. It is built on top of an existing conventional programming teaching system by adding a pragmatic knowledge layer. Our evaluations show that K-Assess provides students a number of benefits in being able to identify strengths and weaknesses and they appreciate the learning values of these. The teacher exercise-authoring evaluation indicates that entering a new K-Assess exercise can be done within a relatively short time, even for a first time user of the teacher interface and addition of the knowledge layer adds only modest complexity to the task of authoring teaching material in the system.

Involving self-, peer-, and teacher-assessment in a writing course: A cross comparison and reflection of students’ perceptions
The increasing demand for lifelong learners and reflective practitioners has re-conceptualized the connection between assessment and learning to the extent that alternative assessment methods (i.e., self-, peer and teacher-assessment, etc.) have emerged. However, their incorporation into various language skills might bring about certain consequences. Among them, the writing skill is ofte...

متن کاملStudents' Understanding of Their Student Model
Open Learner Models (OLM) are believed to facilitate students’ metacognitive activities in learning. Inspectable student models are a simple but very common form of OLM that grant students opportunities to get feedback on their knowledge and reflect on it. This paper uses individualized surveys and interviews with high school students who have at least three years experience learning with the C...

The Learner Model of an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) may be made visible (opened) to its users. An Open Learner Model (OLM) may also become a learning resource in its own right, independently of an ITS. OLMs offer potential for learner reflection and support to metacognitive skills such as self-assessment, in addition to improving learner model accuracy. This paper describes an evaluation ...

Two tools for skill assessment are presented in this paper. First the Adaptive Assessment Tool provides an efficient way for testing the learner's knowledge by posing questions. Second the Self-Evaluation Tool provides a method to assess the learner's knowledge by defining skills based on a controlled vocabulary. In both cases the result is a set of skills which is visualised by the Learner Kno...
